Carbonetic LSD (Mechanical type LSD)

The carbon LSD excels in all performance stages whether it is a road race, time attack, drifting competition, or rally. Carbon LSD is effective for a wide range of vehicles from FR, RR, 4WD, to FF. These supurb features of carbon LSD provide a pleasurable and stress free driving experience for every level of driver from professional to novice.

Characteristics
  • Stable Lock performance
  • Durable performance
  • Gentle transition characteristics that yeild ease of handling from tree to differential lock
  • Soft frictional performance that reduces the braking phenomenon
  • Noiseless performance (with suitable LSD oil)

After Installation

Break In

A break in period is essential after istallation. A full powered track run without a break in might cause early wear and tear and less than 100% performance.

How to Break In
  1. Use 1st or 2nd gear / 10 - 20 mph and drive figure "8"'s for 15 minutes to 30 minutes.
  2. Drive on a street for around 200 miles without high power, but the straight driving on a highway does not provide proper break in.

About LSD oil

Which oil should you use?

Selection of the LSd oil is very important to guarantee the maximum performance. Carbonetic LSD oil is recommended, at least during break in, and until you have experience with how our LSD should work. Our LSD oil is non-synthetic oil, so it might be better to use synthetic oil for the racing or competition scene.

When should you change the oil?
  1. Right after your break in period.
  2. Right after the first 600 miles of driving.
  3. After the initial 600 miles, change the oil ever 1800 miles(for street driving). For hard driving and race conditions, the differential oil tends to run at higher temperatures which hastens the deteriorating process. It will be necessary to change your oil more frequently.

Carbon LSD Maintenance

LSD Oil

A carbon LSD functions very effectively even at slow speed turning where a metal LSD is non operational or even in a very low break away torque environment. This amazing performance is a result of a consistant, longer frictional engagement of the carbon plates. However, this also tends to deteriorate the LSD oil faster than a metal LSD. Frequent oil changes are strongly recommended.

For street

-Right after break in - Right after the next 600 miles - Every 1800 miles afterward

For hard driving conditions

-Right after break in - Right after the next 600 miles - After driving for 1-2 hours(Hard Circuit Driving) OR After driving 20-30 times(Autocross)

Initial Torque Adjustment

The carbon LSD works well even with low initial torque, because the clutch plate of the carbon LSD creates high friction. Thus, the number of overhauls needed for initial torque is dramatically less than the metal LSD.

Gears

Final gear

  • CARBONETIC offers 4 % to 12% shorter final gears for selected Honda / ACURA.
  • A shorter final gear yields a higher delivered torque to the ground and faster acceleration for each gear.
  • An appropriate final gear will provide considerable advantage on the race course.
  • All CARBONETIC final gears are heat treated and the special shot peening are applied on them for greater durability.

Mission Final for S2000

  • The CARBONETIC mission final replaces the stock secondary drive gear.
  • It shortens the gear ratio by 8.7% for AP1 and by 4.3% for AP2.
  • The stock secondary shaft for AP2 is required.

Close ratio gear

  • CARBONETIC offers close ratio gears for Honda B-series.
  • With the gear ratio closer to each other, the engine rev stays at the optimal range.
  • By keeping the rev at the most powerful range by fully utilizing VTEC, your lap time will improve significantly.
  • Can be combined with the CARBONETIC final gear.

Attention
  1. carbonetic products are manufactured for racing use, so it tends to make some noise more than the stock parts. But when you feel the abnormal noise or feeling, please inspect your car A.S.A.P.
  2. You might find when you change the oil, the color of the oil has changed to black with melted carbon material. This is normal.
  3. The regularly and timely oil changes are very important to maximum performance, durability and to avoid mechanical problems.
  4. With the Mechanical LSD, the capacity for LSD oil tends to be less than that of an open differential. This can cause problems such as breakage of LSD internal parts, abnormal noise and could shorten the life of the LSD. Please maintain your oil levels regularly, especially under race conditions. You can add oil by simply tilting the case and adding or through another hole such as the speed sensor hole for the K20 motor.
  5. For racing use, the differential oil temperature tends to run at higher temperatures that can speed up the deterioration of the LSD. One way to prevent this is to install an oil cooler.
